Katherine A. Román Aquino

Katherine A. Román Aquino is an independent Peruvian researcher with a Bachelor’s degree in Andean Archaeology from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and a Master of Arts in Arts and Cultural Management from Leuphana University in Germany. In 2022, she attended the María Lugones Decolonial Summer School in the Netherlands, where she deepened her understanding of decolonial thought. Her research interests lie at the intersection of space, culture, memory, and development, focusing on how these elements influence collective identity and social transformation in Latin America. Katherine has contributed to academic discourse with publications such as “En la cultura está el desarrollo: La instrumentalización política de la cultura en el diseño de proyectos de ley en la Comisión de Cultura y Patrimonio Cultural del Congreso peruano, periodo 2016-2017” in Socializar Conocimientos, and “Another look at development and culture in Peru” in The Oxford Diplomatic Dispatch. In 2024, she chaired the panel “Crisis, violencias y resistencias: perspectivas críticas en el Perú actual” and present the paper entitled “Violencia discursiva en el poder legislativo peruano: reflexiones sobre su impacto en la cultura” at the 12th Conference of the Nordic Latin American Research Network in Copenhagen.
