Karoline Blix Hjelle is a Doctoral Research Fellow in sociology at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo. She is currently working on a doctoral dissertation exploring how notions of creating a ‘self’ through choice is expressed in a context of high school choice among Oslo youth, and how these ideas tie in with processes through which classed and racialized categories are made. By focusing on how youth experience navigating a landscape of un/desirable and un/available schools and how this plays up against un/desirable and un/available subject positions and futures, the ambition of the study is to widen the knowledge and available discourse on social injustice, class and racialization in a Norwegian/Scandinavian context.
