Ruggero Signoroni, an urbanist and researcher, holds a PhD in Urban Planning, Design, and Policy (Polytechnic University of Milan). His doctoral research explores the return of scientism in urban planning and, by examining the emergence of the so-called ‘new urban science’, challenges the modes of scientization of urban governance that rely on datafication and technological solutionism. As part of his doctoral studies, he has conducted empirical research abroad – in Sweden, at Lund University, and in Germany, at TU Berlin. Key findings from the fieldwork in Sweden, which focused on the activities of the Senseable Stockholm Lab, have been discussed at symposiums and research seminars in Italy and abroad. Further research interests, to which he has dedicated publications in Italian and international scientific journals, include urban planning history, planning theories, planning decision making, participatory planning, and hybrid modes of civic engagement. In addition to his research activities, he has served as a teaching assistant at the Polytechnic University of Milan since the 2021-22 academic year. Since 2025, he has worked as a planning consultant, focusing on participatory planning.
